A
blend of pilgrimage and a pleasure trip can be a comely vacationing option.
And Rameshwaram, a quiet seaside hamlet in Tamil Nadu, with its deluge of
Shaivaite and Vaishnavaite temples is just about that. Besides the scenic
elegance of the calm sea, swaying palm groves and the flocks of sun-basking
tourists, what makes it all the more savory is the location - Rameswaram is
an island town separated from the mainland by the Pamban Channel.
Beach Attractions
Ramanathaswamy Temple - As the lore goes, Rameshwaram
was the place from where Lord Rama built a bridge across the Palk Strait to
reach Lanka in his quest to rescue Sita from Ravana. Once the mission was
accomplished, Rama constructed a Shiva Linga there as a sign of thanksgiving
to the lord. This Jyotirlinga along with the Sri Visalakshi Ambigai
Sannithi, established by Vibheeshana, makes it a sacred site for both
Shaivites and Vaishnavites. The grandeur is further enhanced by the 1,219 m
pillared corridor consisting of 3.6 m high granite pillars, richly carved
and well proportioned. It is believed that Moksha remains unattained if you
don't visit this place once.
Sea-life - The waters here store rare sea species and
coral reefs. Share the waters with the rollicking dolphins. Be it day or
night, the waters are inviting and you can swim 24X7 if you desire.
The
Shrine City - The place is all punctated with shrines. The Vishwanatha
Shrine, Parvathavardhini, Utsava Idols, Santanaganpathi, Natraja Shrine,
Sethupathi Mandapam, Mahalaxmi Shrine, Nandi Mandapam to name a few. Our
